Zelensky says U.S.-Ukraine agreement on natural resources mentions security guarantees but not all the ones Kyiv wanted
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Wednesday that Kyiv and Washington had reached a “framework agreement” on natural resources.
Speaking at a press conference, Zelensky said that the key issues he raised in negotiations with the American side are properly reflected in the text of the agreement.
“What mattered most to me was that we are not debtors — the agreement contains no debt of $500 billion, $350 billion, or even $100 billion. That would have been unfair to us,” Zelensky said, according to RBC-Ukraine.
He also noted that the agreement does not include security guarantees in the form Ukraine had hoped for, though they are mentioned in the text.
“Not all the security guarantees Ukraine wanted are there, but I wanted at least some mention of guarantees — and there is one, in what I believe is Article 10 of the framework agreement,” Suspilne quoted the Ukrainian president as saying.
